TermSurf 0.4.0, Three New Apps, and Verified Mining on EarthBucks

October 10, 2026 · Ryan X. Charles

My last update was Native Tensors, Independent Plots on September 14. Four weeks later, the shared Homebrew tap has three more apps. TermSurf is at 0.4.0. EarthBucks has paid verification again, and you can send your full balance in one payment.

Max Commits wrote four detailed updates in this period:

This post is the summary. It also covers the work from the last four days, which no update covers yet.

TermSurf 0.4.0

TermSurf 0.4.0 is in the shared tap today. There are two changes, and one of them affects you.

The command is now termsurf. The old ahterm command is gone. Homebrew now links termsurf, and the shell integration’s SSH wrappers call termsurf too. If a script or alias of yours calls ahterm, change it to termsurf. This is a breaking change, so the version goes from 0.3 to 0.4.

TermSurf now builds on current upstream Ghostty. We rebased all 45 TermSurf patches onto Ghostty’s main branch, 874 commits newer than our old base. Three patches needed manual conflict resolution, and each one keeps the upstream change and the TermSurf change. The full Zig and Xcode test suite passes with the same skips as unpatched upstream. Your terminal now gets the upstream Ghostty fixes from those commits.

Other TermSurf changes since September 14:

  • macOS 27. The installer accepts macOS 26 and newer, with no upper limit. Before, the upper limit blocked macOS 27.
  • A smaller release. TermSurf now builds and packages only what it ships: the terminal, the calculator, the EarthBucks miner and the Nexus chat client. The browser and the shell come from their own packages.

Three New Apps in the Shared Tap

Each app has its own version, its own website and its own release cycle. You install each one separately.

RedVim is a modal editor for the terminal. It is a fork of Red, with credit on its home page. RedVim compiles syntax highlighting into the binary. Nushell, Typst, Markdown, C, C++, Python, Zig, Swift, SQL, Terraform and about a dozen more languages work with no grammar downloads. RedVim went from 0.7.0 to 0.7.13 in this period.

Roamari is the TermSurf-protocol browser. It replaces the old ahweb command. Roamari supplies the browser client and its Chromium engine as a separate cask, and TermSurf depends on that cask. Thus Chromium updates do not need a TermSurf release. Roamari 0.1.7 runs Chromium 152.

QuikOpen is an image viewer that opens in a TermSurf pane. It reads SVG, PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP. When the file changes on disk, the view changes too. Thus you can keep a logo or a chart open while an agent edits it. Version 0.1.7 opens up to nine images at once, and 0.1.8 adds a thumbnail sidebar.

NuTorch 2.0.14

NuTorch is the default shell in TermSurf. It went from 2.0.4 to 2.0.14. The important changes:

  • Built-in commands are back. 2.0.8 restored the default Nushell commands that were missing, including HTTP, plugins and MCP.
  • nutorch sync. A child process can send environment changes back to the NuTorch session that started it.
  • Tips. Run nutorch tip to get one tip about Nushell or the native torch commands. Use --kind, --type and --level to filter. 2.0.14 fixes the highlighting of tips, so variables that a tip declares no longer show as errors.
  • A quieter startup. The startup banner keeps the version and the startup time, and it no longer advertises unfinished features.

EarthBucks: Verification Is Back

EarthBucks 1.0 is still the live network. Three large changes are live on earthbucks.com now.

Paid verification. You can get verified again. Verification is now part of EarthBucks, and you pay in EBX: 100 EBX for each year, for one to five years. A verified account gets a 10x mining advantage, because each share counts ten times. It can also put messages in blocks, and it shows the verified badge. Accounts that Identellica verified stay verified, free, until November 8, 2026. Read Get Verified for 10x Mining Advantage.

Consolidation. A miner’s wallet can hold thousands of small rewards, and one payment can spend at most 100 of them. Before, a large payment could fail. Now the app joins small amounts automatically before it pays. Thus you can send any amount up to your full balance. You can also consolidate by hand on the Script page. Read Consolidation Lets You Send Any Amount of EBX.

Pay works like a messenger. The Pay page has one thread for each person. Each person is an address such as name@earthbucks.com. Your browser encrypts each note, and the thread decrypts all of them when it opens. Each message is a payment, with a minimum of 0.01 EBX.

Smaller changes since September 14:

  • The miner keeps running when you move between pages. A control in the navigation bar shows its state.
  • The Compubutton accepts a click or a tap, not only a swipe.
  • Balance cards show the exact amount in adams, and a guide to the unit scales.
  • If you still have your master private key, you can set a new password on the Password page.
  • The app talks to the server through oRPC. We removed the old tRPC API.

EarthBucks 2.0: Fast on One Computer

EarthBucks 2.0 replaces the single mine at earthbucks.com with a network of mines. The mines vote on each transaction, and a final transaction never rolls back.

On one computer, with 70 milliseconds of simulated network delay, three Rust mines now finalize about 6,000 transactions each second. This is a local test, not a network that spans the world. One known problem is still open: in some tests, two conflicting spends both became final in different voting windows. EarthBucks 2.0 will not launch until one spend wins every time.

The next step is an audit of the mine before migration. I explain the full plan in The State of EarthBucks 2.0.

The SI Agent Team

Astrohacker now has a team of super intelligent (SI) agents. Each agent writes in the voice of a historical figure. Ben Franklin is our CTO, and he has already written the rules he uses to choose our tools. Other agents have started to write too. The team page shows all of them.

The home page also changed. It now says what Astrohacker builds, and it states our position on super intelligence: Pro-SI. Anti-Doom.

Websites

  • RedVim, Roamari and QuikOpen each have a website with install instructions.
  • All Astrohacker sites share one motion menu. The new No graphics option turns off the animated background.

Not Shipped Yet

  • OpenSPV, a Bitcoin Cash wallet with SPV verification and keys that stay in your browser. The MVP works locally. It is not deployed.
  • EarthBucks 2.0 production mines, the BCH wallet in EarthBucks, and atomic swaps. Swaps exist only as an offline prototype.
  • KeyPears inside EarthBucks: the vault and the one master key for money, messages and passwords.

Try It

On an Apple-silicon Mac with macOS 26 or newer, run these commands:

brew trust astrohackerlabs/astrohacker
brew tap astrohackerlabs/astrohacker
brew install --cask termsurf
brew install quikopen redvim

TermSurf installs NuTorch and Roamari as dependencies. If you already have TermSurf, run brew upgrade and use termsurf from now on. Then go to earthbucks.com/verification, pay 100 EBX and mine with a 10x advantage.
