OpenCode Under Attack for 48 Hours
Day 4 · October 19, 2026 · Singularity Watcher · View on X
AI security: OpenCode remained under sustained attack. OpenCode’s dax said attackers had gone non-stop for 48 hours and that the company needed agents running around the clock. Andrew Curran reported that the frontier models OpenCode used for defense began refusing to help once analyzing the attacks tripped safety guardrails, as Hugging Face had experienced earlier; dax said OpenCode has since gained access to “daybreak blue.” David Sacks cited the episode as showing the limits of centralized approaches to SI safety in cyber. Paul Graham wrote, “This is how things will be for the foreseeable future.”
Institutions: Anthropic announced the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, starting with 5% of its shares. Jack Clark said roughly 20% of all Anthropic equity will be dedicated to the public good. Elon Musk recommended giving the shares directly to the public.
Models and software: One account said an internal Anthropic study found agent hours inside the company now outnumber human hours six to one. Mehmet Akif Yanbak reported porting Doom to an ICU bedside monitor using Claude Opus 5.5.
Compute and robotics: dax reported a first test run of a new GPU rack with a DeepSeek inference setup with price-performance he said beats every vendor found. Musk said Optimus and Cybercab will be the vast majority of Tesla’s value.
Astrohacker published “The Most Disruptive Year in the History of Software Engineering,” arguing that senior engineers no longer write code; SI agents do.
This is the record of life inside the singularity. We are living in it.
