QuikOpen

An image viewer launched from the shell.

QuikOpen displayed SVG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WebP files in a TermSurf pane. Someone working with a local image could inspect it without switching applications.

The viewer shipped as a separate Homebrew install for Apple silicon Macs.

How it works

  • Preview an image while it changes

A user could leave a local file open while another process updated it. The viewer refreshed from disk. The project report describes keeping a logo or chart visible while an agent edited it.

  • Decode the file as intended

The viewer respected JPEG orientation, preserved transparency, and supported animated GIF and WebP files. The public README documents a centered natural-size image and an 8 MiB limit per file.

  • Compare several assets

The 0.1.7 viewer accepted up to nine images. A thumbnail sidebar followed in 0.1.8, letting a user change the selected image without leaving the pane.

Inspect the edges of a transparent logo

Opening a PNG in the viewer gave the developer a visual check immediately after saving. Animation, transparency, file changes and orientation could each be tested with a different small image.
