Roamari

A Chromium browser inside a TermSurf pane.

Roamari let someone open a URL from the shell and keep the page beside the commands they were running. It paired a command-line launcher with a Chromium browser process.

Astrohacker published Roamari separately from the terminal through Homebrew.

How it works

  • Launch Chromium from the shell

The roamari command accepted a URL and contacted the TermSurf host. A companion process supplied Chromium. An ordinary terminal did not provide the compositor socket and pane identity needed to display the page.

  • Update the browser independently

The cask contained the launcher and its engine. TermSurf could use a new Chromium build without publishing a new terminal. For testing, the launcher also accepted an explicit engine path.

Try a particular engine build

Launching a fixture URL with an explicit Chromium binary exercised the client, engine and host together. Run inside a TermSurf pane, this could expose input or rendering failures that the standalone version command would miss. An agent working on the launcher could run the same fixture against two engine paths to isolate an engine regression.
